Mike Bennett is one of the hosts of Mike & Kacey in the Morning on 100.7FM, WHUD. When the murder of Shelley Sperling occurred, he was in his early twenties and employed at WHVW in Hyde Park, New York.

I was able to speak with him by telephone and this is his story of what he saw that fateful night:

Mike remembers that he was at home and he got a call from a friend who was a member of the Poughkeepsie police, telling him that there was a hostage crisis at Marist College.

When he got to the school, he was able to get past the police line, because he had a press pass. The police officers had surrounded the cafeteria building and they were using binoculars to look through the windows. They could see him pacing in the room.

Eventually it got to be late into the night and the police had not heard any shots. Everyone was crouched behind trees.

Finally, a police officer gave the order to enter the building. A swat team raced in, and Mike was able to go in with them, and remain the kitchen area. Shortly after they went in, Acevedo appeared in handcuffs after he surrendered. He was surrounded by police officers. He was staring into space. Mike tried to speak with him, but we was in another world.
